Carla Corte is a native Fairhopian and a 1989 honors graduate of Fairhope High School. After graduation, she attended Auburn University, receiving her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1993. She completed her nursing preceptorship at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. Upon graduation, she moved home to the Eastern Shore and worked at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center and Thomas Hospital in the Surgery Departments. During her time as a surgical nurse, she obtained certification as an operating room nurse (CNOR).
Carla joined Dr. Shoemaker’s medical practice in 1998 and in 2006, after the birth of her third child, she went back to school to pursue a master’s degree. While at the University of South Alabama, she became a member of The Golden Key National Honor Society and received her Master of Science in Nursing in 2007. In 2008, she obtained certification as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and accepted a position to continue working with Dr. Shoemaker in that capacity. Her areas of interest in the Practice include the General GYN care of women of all ages as well as the surgical procedures and treatment options that are necessary to treat the conditions with GYN patients. She is a member of the American Urogynecologic Society (AUGS).
Carla lives in Fairhope with her three children and enjoys being involved with her children’s school and the community. When not working, she enjoys spending time with her immediate and extended family who enjoy Mardi Gras and Auburn Football. She likes taking care of the many women she has known for years and meeting new women and families who move to the area.
