UPDATE (5/6/2020)
The safety of our patients and staff is now and always has been a priority at Shoemaker Gynecology. We have always followed strict precautions for cleaning and disinfection in our office and recently instituted more stringent measures due to the unique health risk posed by COVID-19.
Shoemaker Gynecology has remained open to provide necessary medical care to our patients, and we are pleased to announce that with the phased reopening declared by Governor Ivey last week, we are once again performing and scheduling elective surgery.
We continue to offer telemedicine for our patients who may be at a higher risk for COVID-19. Telemedicine is an office visit over the phone with one of our three providers and is covered by some insurance plans. If you believe a telemedicine appointment would be right for you, please contact our office at 251-990-1950.
UPDATE (3/20/2020)
The situation with COVID-19 is changing rapidly, so I want to update our patients on our current status: Shoemaker Gynecology is still open.
As mentioned earlier this week, we have always followed strict precautions for cleaning and disinfection in our office, but have instituted more stringent measures due to this unique health risk.
If you are more comfortable with telemedicine, this is also an option. Telemedicine is essentially an office visit over the phone with one of our three providers, and is covered by some insurance plans. For some patients who may be at a higher COVID-19 risk, telemedicine is an excellent option that allows them to receive the care they need from the comfort of home.
If you believe a telemedicine appointment would be right for you, please contact our office at 251-990-1950.
Shoemaker Gynecology Statement on COVID-19 (3/17/2020)
I wanted to personally reach out to our patients to address what we are doing to protect your health and to assure you that I and everyone in our office are taking the spread of the COVID-19 virus very seriously. Because we are health care providers trusted with the care and safety of our patients, we have always followed strict precautions for cleaning and disinfection in our office. Disinfecting rooms between patients, sterilizing all instruments, washing hands thoroughly with soap and water, and using gloves and masks are all standard procedures for Shoemaker Gynecology providers and staff.
Because COVID-19 presents a unique health risk, however, I’m sharing with you today the additional procedures we have instituted:
- All patients will be screened for respiratory symptoms, recent international travel, and/or contact with someone who has traveled internationally prior to being seen in our office.
- Any patients who have respiratory or flu-like symptoms, including but not limited to fever, cough, or shortness of breath, are asked to stay home and call to reschedule their appointment.
- We have increased the frequency of cleaning and disinfecting areas within our office and are encouraging more frequent use of hand sanitizer by our providers and staff.
- We request that you take your temperature at home before coming to our office – even if you don’t feel sick – and reschedule if your temperature exceeds 99.4°F.
Shoemaker Gynecology is continuing to see patients during our regular business hours, but it is possible that we may need to make adjustments in the days and weeks ahead. Continue to check our website and Facebook page for the latest information. As always, our aim is to provide our patients with quality personalized care in a warm and caring environment.
Sincerely,
Dr. Marshall Shoemaker
